JumpIn Rides on date 8th June 2017 participated to the Seedstars Cape Town innovation summit, along with many other startups, to pitch its idea and have the possibility to win $500,000 as equity investment thanks to its innovative carpooling idea.
The event was hosted at Workshop 17, co-working space in Waterfront, and flawlessly conducted by the Seedstars team presenting Networking moments alternated with the startup pitches.
Representing JumpIn Rides, there was Pauline du Paty, Managing director of the company, who has been able to express the passion and determination shared by the whole team thanks to her speech.
Here listed the three winners of the competition:
• Green Fingers Mobile: A mobile first SaaS platform to finance and manage large groups of smallholder farmers.
• Mbora: Producing advanced IOT sales and distribution capabilities for operators in the emerging markets.
• EM Guidance: An app that aggregates medical content from regional experts for medical professionals.
The loved ridesharing platform did not reach the finals, but won the popular vote thanks to the intense tweeting with the hashtags #jumpinrides and #sswct .
It has been a great way for JumpIn to raise awareness on their product and test the reaction of people when hearing it.
The whole team is very pleased with the performance and reaction that the audience had, and hopes to participate again to similar competitions. Ridesharing is South Africa’s next transport solution, and although the majority of people still use unofficial carpooling platforms (Facebook groups, Gumtree) a platform like JumpIn Rides will be necessary to ensure safety and provide a better service for everyone in the very near future.
Participating to the Seedstars event has greatly increased JumpIn Rides motivation and the team is now more resolved than ever in making Carpooling the next big thing in South Africa
